Astronomy Night- Watching the Stars

Lifestyle
Come join us for a chance to watch the stars!
We want you to come out and join us and take a look through one of the on site telescopes or just lounge around with your friends and family and observe the stars and the skies! We’ll observe whatever the sky wants to show us, but we’ll look specifically for galaxies and nebulae.
We have an addition to this event, the eVscope eQuinox. This amazing telescope will allow you to view and save images directly to your phone through use of wifi and the Unistellar app. Download the Unistellar app prior to arrival to save some time.
Remember, it will probably be cold, so bundle up and bring some hot hands or other heating devices. No fires on site, we attempt to keep out stray light as much as possible.
Please know that due to federal mandates, those who attend the event should wear a mask within 6′ of others not from their party and maintain distancing between parties not from the same group.
Directions – In the event your mapping program steers you wrong, you follow Carters Dam Rd up the mountain from 136. Then veer left at the end past the gatehouse and cross the dam.
Location-Northbank Park – Carter’s Lake Astronomy Field – Ellijay Ga
When-Friday, January 21, 2022- 6:30pm-9:30pm
*** As always, weather is unpredictable. The event will be cancelled or rescheduled if there is rain or cloudy skies.

Our Sheriff’s Office employs just over 100 people including sworn deputies, 911 dispatchers, detention officers, and civilian employees serving Gilmer County. While a lot of you know someone that works here, we are recognizing employees on our page to give more people the opportunity to meet “us.”

This week, we would like to introduce you to Lexia Robinson. Lexia has been employed with the Gilmer County Sheriff’s Office for over 3 years. She is a Detention Officer in our Detention Center, and is currently serving as Acting Sergeant on her shift.

LexiaLexia obtained her GED in 2001. She worked her first ever job as a waitress at the age of 13 years old!

Lexia has listed her hobbies as walking her dog in public, auto mechanics, shooting, campfires, and she enjoys nature and the outdoors. She says her favorite food is steak, favorite movie is anything “Avengers.” She is undecided on her favorite place to vacation and says she is an “open book” when asked what people might not know about her.

When asked her favorite part of her job at GCSO, she said she loves watching people improve.

Her Captain, Carol Daves, says Lexia is a true team player, that she is always available when she is needed.

Thanks, Lexia, for the job you do for GCSO and Gilmer County citizens!
