Christmas Tree Farms in North Georgia

A favorite holiday tradition for families is picking out their Christmas tree, and then bringing it home to decorate all together.  Nowadays, there are a lot more options for picking out live trees than there used to be, for example, there is Wal-Mart, Home Depot, and Lowes. While those are great options there is nothing quite like the thrill of going to a tree farm and cutting down a fresh tree with loved ones.

There are a few options for the experience of going and cutting down a fresh tree. Those options are Holly Hill Tree Farm in Dahlonega, Bottoms Christmas Tree Farm in Cumming, The Kinsey Family Farm in Gainsville, and many others. These options offer many different family-friendly activities as well as picking out the tree.

Holly Hill

Holly Hill Tree Farm is closed on Mondays but open Tuesday through Friday from 3:00 p.m. till dark, and Saturday through Sunday from 10:00 a.m. till dark. The farm is located at 276 Woodland Ln, Dahlonega, Ga 30533. They have Cypress, Pine, and Fraser Fir trees. The Cypress and Pine trees have to be cut down while the Fraser Fir is precut from North Carolina.

Prices for Cypress trees 6ft and under are $45, and each foot after goes up by five-dollar increments. The prices for the Pine trees are 6ft and under $35 also going up in five-dollar increments by the foot. The Fraser Fir prices are 6ft and under $70, 7ft trees are $80, 8ft trees are $90, 9ft trees are $100, 10ft trees are $120, and 11ft trees are $200.

The only other attraction featured at Holly Hill is Back Porch Pottery. They will have a table set up on-site with homemade gift options available. Holly Hill is a family-owned business that opens seasonally after Thanksgiving. To purchase the trees cash or check are accepted cards are not, and additionally, no pets are allowed at the farm. Bottoms Christmas

Bottoms Christmas tree farm is family owned and operated for the last 23 years. They are a Christian-based company. They offer Leyland Cypress, Virginia Pines, Carolina Sapphire, White Pine, Deodar Cedar, and Fraser Firs. All the trees except for the Fraser firs are $9 a foot. The Frasers are priced individually.

Also featured at the farm is a Christmas Barn Shop. The shop offers homemade jams and jellies, handmade Christmas wreaths, Christmas Crafts, Tree Farm hats and shirts, Christmas tree stands and Santa’s snack shack. Prices vary on the items.

The farm is open Monday through Thursday from 3:00 p.m. till 6:00 p.m., Friday from 12:00 p.m. till 6:00, and Saturday from 9:00 a.m. till 6:00 p.m. The Christmas season is November 20 through December 18. Santa will be at the farm on Saturday, December 4 from 10:00 a.m till 1:00 p.m. Pets are also welcomed but need to be leashed. The farm is located at 5880 John Burruss Road Cumming, Georgia 30040.

The Kinsey Family Farm

The Kinsey Family Farm is a family-owned business that is open year-round. During the regular part of the year, the farm is a nursery that offers a wide variety of plants. In the fall the farm sells pumpkins from Oct. 1 through Oct. 31. The farm begins selling its Christmas trees the weekend before Thanksgiving.

The trees that are pre-cut are Fraser Firs, Noble Firs, Douglas Firs, Blue Firs, Nordman Fir (only about 10 of these remains), ‘Hoopsii’ Blue Spruce (around 11 remains), Deodar Cedar, and ‘Polar Gold’ Arborvitae. The trees that are available for cutting down on the property are Carolina Sapphire Cypress and Murray Cypress. All trees vary in price and are labeled with tags.

The farm has animals that can be fed with the purchase of “animal crackers”. They also offer tracker rides down to the trees starting at 12:00 p.m. and ending at 5:30 p.m. There is a fire pit in which families can roast marshmallows and a small gift shop featuring homemade jams and jellies.

Kinsey Family Farm is open Dec. 1 through 18, Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Saturday and Sunday 9:00 a.m. till 6:00 p.m. The farm will be closed from Dec. 19 through Jan. 3. These tree farms are good options for trees and family fun. There are many other farms in the area that offer similar services at similar prices. The traditions started with families are the best and this is the best time of the year to make memories.
