PRESS RELEASE-
CLEVELAND, GA – North Georgia Wildlife & Safari Park is proud to announce a once-in-a-generation event: the birth of a honey badger, believed to be the only one born in the United States in over 15 years-and possibly the only one currently in the country.
Now 12 weeks old, this rare baby is thriving after being hand-raised by the park’s dedicated animal care team. Its mother, a first-time mom, was struggling to care for her newborn, prompting intervention just five days after birth. Staff stepped in to incubate and hand-raise the baby-an incredibly delicate and rarely successful process.
“This is an extraordinary moment in U.S. zoological history,” said Hope Bennett, Director at North Georgia Wildlife Park. “Honey badgers are famously difficult to breed and raise in captivity. This little one is a true miracle.”
Honey badgers are native to Africa and parts of Asia and are known for their fearless nature and fierce independence. Incredibly tough and rarely seen in zoos, they’re among the most difficult animals to raise in human care. That makes this honey badger baby not just adorable-but truly one of a kind. The baby will soon be introduced to the public through the park’s popular “Meet the Babies” experience, offering guests a rare chance to get up close with one of the world’s most unique young animals.
