15 of the Best Nighttime Activities for the Whole Family

As the days grow shorter and the nights grow longer, you may find yourself holding on to the last couple of months of cozy nighttime weather as long as you can while trying to enjoy the outdoors with your family. We’ve put together a list of fun activities you can do with your whole family, outside, at night!

1. Play hide and seek in the backyard.
2. Play sardines in the yard. This is very similar to hide and seek, except only one person hides and everyone else counts. When everyone is done counting, the players all try to find the hider. Once the players find the hider, they hide with them until there is one player left. That player is “it” the next round.
3. See how many lightning bugs you can capture and then set loose in one minute.
4. Play flashlight tag. This is played much like laser tag, except with a flashlight.
5. Scary stories around a fire, your back porch, or, if you’re really brave, just under the nighttime sky.
6. Outdoor movie or game night.
7. Camp in your backyard.
8. Try to guess and find all the constellations.
9. Paint, draw, or color in the dark. Someone comes up with a picture to paint or draw, and everyone tries their best to complete the picture. Once you get inside or turn on the lights, the images will be revealed for all to admire!
10. Paint with glow-in-the-dark paints!
11. Play nighttime Marco Polo.
12. Make shadow puppets.
13. Have a glow stick dance party.
14. Have a nighttime treasure hunt.
15. Go on an evening walk around the neighborhood.
