Extreme Budgeting: How to Eat for $5 a Week

No, that’s not a typo. We are actually going to show you how to eat for $5 a week. Now, it’s important we preface this article with a few disclaimers. This is created for one person. So, please consider that costs will vary when you’re counting your family. This is also created for emergency situations, or, if you’re looking to get creative with how to save a larger-than-normal amount of money.

We are going to be referencing the YouTube channel K James for the tips and tricks in today’s article so that you can check out more of her videos for the best extreme budgeting advice.

While K James teaches her audience how to eat on a much more extreme budget of $2.50 a week, we’re going to loosen the reins just a little bit and bump that up to $5 a week.

K James’s shopping list:

  • Dozen eggs
  • 12 count tortilla pack
  • 14 oz. frozen mixed pepper and onion stir fry
  • 32 oz. white rice
  • 16 oz. pinto beans

All the recipes are broken down in the video for your convenience.

And while you’re considering extreme budgeting, here are some more items to add to your list.

  • Flour
  • Beans
  • Oil
  • Salt
  • Wheat bread
  • Peanut butter
  • Cheese
  • Canned fruit
  • Apple sauce
  • Canned chili
  • Canned tomatoes/tomato sauce
  • Corn meal
