New Babies At North Georgia Wildlife Park

Arts & Entertainment, Community, Fast & Furriest
There is so much to see and do at North Georgia Wildlife Park!
North Georgia Wildlife Park is delighted to announce the birth of two lowland Pacas! What is a paca, you may ask? Pacas are adorable rodents, native to South America, and they are undeniably cute. They grow to 15-25lbs. as adults and are covered in brown fur with white spots. These spots give them camouflage which help them hide from predators. They have large eyes which allow them to navigate their surroundings at night and find all their favorite foods. Pacas are mainly frugivores, (meaning they eat mostly fruit). Their favorites include bananas and mangos. Pacas’ main predators include humans, jaguars, cougars and bush dogs, and they will use their impressive swimming skills to help them escape. North Georgia Wildlife Park has six adult pacas who call the park home.
The Park is also excited to announce the birth of a baby Reeves Muntjac Deer. Muntjac deer are a small species of deer native to Asia. Though small in size they have a big personality and are also called Barking Deer because they make a sound like a barking dog! Full grown they are only about 30 lbs. and stand less than two feet tall. The new baby boy is covered in spots now, but as he grows, he will lose those spots but gain both tusks and antlers. These small deer spend most of their time foraging for food, but when threatened they can run up to 40 miles/hour! North Georgia Wildlife Park is home to 10 adult Muntjac deer.

LOTS OF SMILES AT NORTH GEORGIA WILDLIFE PARK & ZOO

When we began offering our “Social Distancing Drive Thru
Zoo” experience at North Georgia Wildlife Park & Zoo, we
really did not know how people would respond. We have
been overwhelmed buy your response! Literally thousands
of families have driven through our zoo over the past two
weeks, and we have received so many generous
contributions to help us with the ongoing costs of operating the zoo and feeding our animals.

Perhaps the most gratifying thing for us has been the comments we have
received. Our guests have told us over and over, “Thank you for doing this!
Thank you for providing a safe experience for our children. It’s so nice to be
able to get out of the house and do something fun, while still practicing social distancing.”

But the best thing has been the smiles on the faces of the children! Their
excitement at seeing the animals has made the “Drive Thru Zoo” worth all the time and effort.

So, thank you to our zoo family, friends and community for your continual
support. We love you all and will continue to pray for you during the coming days.

Your kids are out of school. Are you looking for an activity for them that doesn’t expose them to large groups of people? North Georgia Zoo is the answer!

North Georgia Zoo in Cleveland, GA will be open Wednesday and Thursday, 11:00am-3:00pm BY RESERVATION ONLY. This will allow us to limit the number of people in the zoo to levels in alignment with the CDC recommendations of 50 people in close proximity to one another. Tours will be limited to 20 people. Animal Experiences will be limited to 8-10 people. The zoo is an open-air facility that is spread out over a large area, so “social distancing” is the norm here. There are also hand sanitizer stations throughout the facility for your convenience. At this time there are no confirmed COVID-19 cases in our county.

You may reserve a Wildlife Walk (tour of our exotic animals), the Petting Zoo (we have 30-40 babies in the Petting Zoo right now!), or a Hands-On Animal Experience (Wolf Experience, Otter Experience, Meet the Babies, or Fennec Fox Experience).
